Description

French Onion Potato Bake is a creamy, cheesy delight that layers tender potatoes and sweet caramelized onions in a bubbling, golden dish—perfect for cozy gatherings or family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs starchy potatoes (such as Russets)
  • 2 large sweet yellow onions
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Sauté sliced onions until soft and translucent, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Thinly slice the potatoes using a mandoline or sharp knife.
  4. Grease a baking dish and layer half of the potatoes followed by half of the sautéed onions. Sprinkle thyme between layers.
  5. Mix heavy cream with salt and pepper; pour half over the layers. Top with shredded cheese before repeating the layers.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes; uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
